New Facilities & Policies for 2011
NEW FACILITIES
Gym & Multi-Purpose Center
We are very excited about the largest building project in SHC history - a new 8300+ sq ft gymnasium (see above)! Scheduled for completion in early June, the new gym is located behind the Chesapeake Room. The gym boasts a large basketball court, volleyball court, performance stage and air-conditioning. In the future, the gym will also be home to an indoor climbing wall as well as other indoor high ropes course elements. The gym will be used for inclement weather activities and for large-group programming.
Double Zipline
Since the path of the old zipline went right through what is now the new gymnasium, we decided to take the opportunity to build a new double zipline to replace it. Campers will now be able to “race” on this faster version of an SHC classic.

This photo of the inner structure of the new zipline tower was taken in early April. The zipline will be complete by May 1st.
Lights and Fans in All One-Week Cabins
Well, you asked, and so we delivered! We are excited to announce that all one-week cabins are being outfitted with two lights and two oscillating fans. Please note that there will not be outlets accessible to campers, this is still camp after all. But we think this will make those hot summer nights a bit more enjoyable for sleeping.
Backup Electrical Power Generator
We have just completed the installation of a new 300kW generator that can power the entire camp facility in the event of a power outage. You’ll notice the small building across from the tennis courts about half-way in the road to camp – just before you reach the horse rings.
Other Ropes Course Additions
The “Crew Cabin” that was the central gathering point and storage facility for the ropes course has been totally taken down, redesigned and rebuilt. The all new Challenge Course pavilion will be a great place to step into the shade and snag a drink of water before heading out onto the ropes course.

We’re also building a second Giant Swing to accommodate the increasing number of campers that want to participate in this popular and thrilling activity.

NEW POLICIES
Online Camp Store
As a convenience to our camper families, we will be launching a new online camp store.  SHC clothing will now be available for purchase before, during and after camp.  Many items will also be sold at our traditional store here at camp. Click here to shop on the new online store.
Camp DVDs No Longer Available for Purchase
We will continue to incorporate video into the camp evening program as well as post daily photos for viewing by camper families. However, we will no longer be producing a weekly camp DVD for purchase.
Food No Longer Permitted in Cabins or Lodges
For a number of reasons, including camper food allergies and unwanted pests, food will no longer be permitted in cabins or lodges. Please do not send food items with campers or in care packages. All care packages will be opened in the Dining Hall and any food items will be discarded. Please inform friends and relatives of this new policy too. Drinking water will continue to be permitted in cabins.
